Arne Ivar Fors

FORS, Arne - age 92 of Innisfil, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie. Arne was born on November 17th, 1931, in Toronto, to Ivar and Aino Ronkko Fors. He attended the University of Toronto and graduated as a mining engineer and from Osgood Hall as a lawyer. 

He joins his wife of 65 years, Lorraine McAlpine Nairn (deceased 2021) who he met at University of Toronto. He is survived by their children Stephen (Laurie), Sheila Leask (Frank), and Murray (Janice Moore). His siblings are Eric (Nancy), the late Aileen Watson (the late Dr. David), and Anne Beyers. His brothers-in-law are the late J. Graham Nairn (the late Kathleen), and James Nairn (the late Jane). He was Grandpa to and proud of Catherine (Dylan Baker) and Andrew Fors (Alicia Willis), Emily, Eric and Stephanie Leask, and Robert and Philip Fors (Zofia). He was also very fond of all his numerous Canadian and American nieces and nephews. 

He was a pioneer as a mining engineer in the Alberta Tar Sands in the 1950’s, then attended Law school and worked as a patent attorney, specializing in technical patents in private practice and at Gowlings. 

He was an avid skier and sailor, who enjoyed photography, family ski trips, wilderness trips, many summers spent at Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay with his children and grandchildren, and trips and cruises all over the world with Lorraine. An accomplished woodworker, he made cedar strip canoes and even a beautiful paddleboard. 

Visitation will be held at the Innisfil Funeral Home (7910 Yonge St. Stroud) on Friday, November 22nd from 6:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. and on Saturday November 23rd from 12:00p.m. - 2:00p.m. with Memorial Service to start at 2:00p.m. The Memorial Service will be live streamed. Although donation, flowers and cards are not expected, memorials may be made to the Royal Victoria Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
