We said goodbye to Jose Da Estrela Flor on January 3, 2025. He succumbed to dementia and passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Maria de Lurdes, his sister Maria and his children Norma, Lurdes, Joe and Ricky. He was also survived by his son-in-laws Jose and Marco, his daughter-in-law Lisa, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Jose was born on October 24, 1946 to Manuel Flor and Beatriz Bernardo Da Estrela in Sao Miguel, Portugal. He grew up fishing. It was something he loved to do and it helped his family. He displayed his courage by joining the military and was deployed to Mozambique for 2 years.
Upon being discharged from the military, he started his life in Canada when he got married to Maria de Lurdes Fátima Cabral. He raised his family in Toronto and worked in construction.
Jose can be remembered as the life of the party as he always made people laugh and opened the dance floor with his beaming smile. Christmas was his favourite time of the year and he displayed it, every year creating many memories for his family. In 2009, he was appointed by his church to be the Mordomo (Steward of the Holy Spirit). He coordinated and hosted charitable events to help raise money for the church and promote the word of God within the community.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and is welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven. The family asks those who can, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer Society of Canada to support a cure to this illness.
Friends and family will be received at the Innisfil Funeral Home on Thursday, January 9, 2025, for visitations from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Church followed by entombment at Innisvale Cemetery. All are invited back to the funeral home following interment for a reception, where light refreshments and a time of fellowship may be shared.
