POHLMANN, Martha - After a very long illness, Martha Pohlmann, passed away on June 30, 2017. She was surrounded by love, in her home, and died very peacefully in her sleep. Born in Wetzlar, Germany on March 23, 1932, she lived a life full of adventure. She married Rudi Pohlmann in 1957 and together they moved to Midland, Ontario in 1961. Rudi worked for the German company Leitz (Leica Camera). Michael, their only child, was born in 1963. Martha loved flowers. She was a seamstress and talented painter; many of her paintings feature Canadian landscapes, flora and fauna. She also loved all animals, especially Maggie and Oatmeal (Michael’s Wheaten Terriers) and Magnum (Veronica’s Horse). When asked recently by a nurse if she loved Magnum because he was a German-bred horse, she smiled and said "No, I love him because he is nice and so good-looking”. Martha had a stuffed teddy bear in the hospital that sang "lean on me" and she would often sign along. The last few years saw many illnesses, including a second bout of cancer, kidney disease, heart disease and related problems from a hernia operation. We love you, now and forever, and we are grateful that you are no longer suffering. And we know you are up there, playing with your beloved Oatmeal and Maggie.
