It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melba Trip on December 18, 2023, at the age of 105, at Hospice Simcoe. Born Melba McBain in Valcartier, Quebec, on September 7, 1918, she was the beloved wife of the late John Trip and dear sister of Verna Stovold.
Melba, affectionately known as a loving aunt, is survived by her nieces and nephews: Christopher Stovold (Louise), Jean Lemire (Albert), Jeffery Stovold (Cathy), Amy Raposo (Tony), and Charlotte Ferguson (Scott).
As a child, Melba's family relocated to Quebec City, where she grew up and attended school. Post-high school, she pursued her passion for education, earning a teaching diploma at McDonald College in Quebec and later obtaining a BA from Queen's University, specializing in English, French, and Spanish.
Melba dedicated 35 years to teaching in the province of Quebec before retiring. She married John Trip and resided in Montreal before moving to Mississauga in 1972. Unfortunately, John's early retirement due to health issues led them to Sandy Cove Acres in 1974, where they spent many joyous years together.
Even after John's passing in 1999, Melba continued to live in Sandy Cove Acres, actively participating in various clubs such as Duplicate Bridge, drama, art, and the Covett Choir "Covetts." She was a devoted member of St. James United Church in Stroud until her passing.
After a remarkable 35-year stay in Sandy Cove Acres, Melba faced a new chapter following an automobile accident. She became a resident of Roberta Place Retirement Lodge in Barrie, where she embraced the vibrant community, participating in numerous groups and clubs.
Melba marked her 105th birthday at The Chartwell Retirement Residence in Barrie, enjoying the company of family, staff, and fellow residents before her final weeks at Simcoe Hospice.
A memorial service to celebrate Melba's life will be held on January 8, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm at Innisfil Funeral Home 7910 Yonge St, Innisfil, ON.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hospice Simcoe in Melba's honor.
