Robert Daniel "Bob" Satchel

January 31, 1942 — April 6, 2025

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robert Daniel Satchel (“Bob”). Bob went peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 83, in Barrie, with family by his side. Bob was a devoted husband to Jeanne Satchel (née Lamson), a cherished dad to Stephen Satchel (Gillian Shaw) and Laura Taylor (Michael), and a proud grandfather to Ben, Isabel, Owen, and Megan. He was predeceased by his brother David and is survived by his sister Betty Hose and many extended family members.

Bob grew up with a love for sports and the outdoors. He excelled at every sport he tried, including golf, which he played religiously into his 80s, winning many tournaments along the way. Hockey, however, was his greatest passion, although he did not put on a pair of skates until he was twelve years old. As a young man, he played for the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League, until his dad, George, told him to come home and learn a trade. That he did, becoming a highly skilled steamfitter and ultimately Project Manager and junior partner with Adam Clark, a construction company specializing in industrial heating and cooling systems. But he never gave up his passion for hockey and continued to play into his 70s and coached boys’ hockey for well over a decade.

Bob’s greatest legacy was his “can-do” attitude. He asked Jeanne on a date the first time they met in Lefroy. He was a natural at fixing and building things, spending many years renovating their first house in Brampton and later rebuilding their home in Innisfil from the ground up, on his own. He loved to get things done and always had a project on the go.

Bob was famously loud and generous with his time and energy, offering a helping hand to neighbours, friends and family to troubleshoot and fix problems with their houses and gardens. He was dedicated to his own flower and vegetable gardens and believed that his tomatoes were better than anyone else’s.

Bob had a big voice but a soft heart. He loved kids and he adored his grandchildren. He was known for being extravagant and silly at Christmas, which was one of his favourite times of the year. He doted on the dogs he had over the years and will be missed by his Golden Retriever, Bailey.

The family is deeply grateful to all of the caregivers who helped Bob over the past year, with special mention to Jennifer Cole-Hughes and the Royalty Care team, who went over and above too many times to count. The family also gratefully acknowledges the health care team who supported Bob over the last year at Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital, particularly in the Hemodialysis Unit.
